Fashion labels for the modern man

Every city has a style identity. London is known to have many – sartorial eclecticism is an integral part of its heritage – but one of the strongest menswear aesthetics of recent years is an offbeat kind of cool provided by a cluster of homegrown designers specialising in casual clothes with an innovative slant. This coveted set of names includes Folk, YMC, Oliver Spencer and Albam,Chevron Paper Straws all of which have their own signatures, but belong to the same distinctive family. There is something pleasingly homespun and comforting about this lot and their wares: knits could’ve been handcrafted in the Scottish highlands; shirts are often fashioned from cotton that has considerable texture and softness.A Folk or YMC jacket might appear simple at first glance, but look closer and the true character of the garment emerges. An unmistakable whiff of English eccentricity lingers beneath the fuss-free cuts; exuberance is confined to quirky detailing, subtle prints or interesting colour combinations.

“Charles Eames once said: ‘The details are not the details, they are the design’,” says Folk’s MD Fraser Shand. “The reason why customers buy our clothes is probably because they like the effort we put into small details in the garment – whether that happens to materialise in a certain fabric choice, a type of button or a topstitch. We’re not recreating the wheel in terms of style, but adding the bells and whistles seems to differentiate us.”Designing pieces that strike a balance between functionality and creativity is not easy, and men aren’t always receptive to novel ideas – something YMC’s co-owner and design director Fraser Moss is well aware of. “It’s a fine line, and one that I have got wrong at times over the years. But since my own style is quite classic and timeless with enough of a twist, I just have to retain faith in my own judgement.”

Their increasing popularity certainly suggests these London labels have nailed the art of dressing the modern man. But most importantly, they know how to navigate the choppy waters of the fashion industry and take the look forward without losing sight of their identities. Far from being newbies, all four names have been around for some time. Folk was established in 2001 and initially sold menswear only. It now incorporates women’s clothing, as well as a growing range of footwear.Buy High quality Coach Grade Sunglasses, Custom Fit Stripe Shirt and more. At almost 20 years of age, YMC is the oldie of the group, and its offer has expanded with time to incorporate full collections for men and women.Forklift forks Oliver Spencer, meanwhile, is about to reach the respectable age of 12, and women have been able to clad themselves in his designs since 2008. Albam was founded in 2006, and so far caters for men only. The quiet but subtly humorous allure of this gentle fashion troupe appeals to a surprisingly sprawling clientele. The discerning Dalston set in East London have long trotted to Folk and Oliver Spencer to pick up cardigans and cotton twill trousers cut just so at the ankle, but boardroom dwellers aren’t entirely immune to their charm. “Our label attracts a nice mix of customers, which can probably be attributed to our focus on quality and understated design, which features just enough detail,” observes Shand. “There is enough detail in the garment to make the cool kids stand out, and the city boys find that the clothes aren’t too scary since they don’t scream ‘fashion’.”

The conscious stepping away from obvious trends resonates strongly with YMC’s Fraser Moss too. “I tend to design the kind of clothes I’d like to wear myself,” he says. “I never pick up fashion magazines,Our store can offer Dsquared Long T-Shirts cheap price, welcome choose! I don’t study trend forecasts – YMC is about style, not fashion. And as such it hopefully attracts a lot of likeminded souls.” Similarly, the ideas that come to Oliver Spencer at the sketching table mirror his own wardrobe – a style that fuses traditional tailoring and streetwear influences, resulting in an unmistakably English look with flashes of Americana and Japanese styling. The duo behind Albam – Alastair Rae and James Shaw – design clothes intended to slot seamlessly into any man’s wardrobe. But the craftsmanship that goes into the construction of each piece,Honeycomb Tissue Ball and the quality of the fabrics and trims, which are mainly sourced in Italy and Britain, give the garments an artisanal feel.

Ivanovic ends Serena's 25-match win streak

Moments before she started pounding the first of her many winners past Serena Williams at the Australian Open, Ana Ivanovic listened intently to the announcer on Rod Laver Arena outlining the extraordinary accomplishments of the woman soon to be across the net from her.Williams, a five-time champion at Melbourne Park, won 78 of her 82 matches in 2013, and was coming into the fourth round on the second-longest winning streak of her career -- 25 matches. It was her 70th match at the Australian Open, a record in the Open Era. And then, of course, there's the 17 major singles championships."When we were starting the match and they were talking about all her Grand Slam titles, it was quite impressive," Ivanovic said, recalling the pre-match introductions. "But I didn't think much about the occasion and who I was playing, because it can get overwhelming."True to her word, Ivanovic, who had never won a set against Williams in four previous meetings, took on the biggest serve in women's tennis without fear. And she hit pinpoint forehands -- 20 of 33 winners were on that side -- to all areas of the court.China Fork Extensions Williams, who later revealed she was carrying a back injury, didn't even bother trying to chase some of them down.Just under two hours later, it was game, set and match: 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and an upset victory to put Ivanovic into the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the first time since her run to the final in 2008.

The action will be intense at the Australian Open, but there's still plenty of time for fun. Check out some shots of the lighter side of the event."It's not easy playing such a champion ... but she is also just a human," said Ivanovic. "I just went out there swinging."Williams never got into the swing of things, at least not to way Ivanovic expected. She noticed from the outset that Williams' serve seemed to lack its usual zip. Williams also made some very uncharacteristic errors on her backhand, a telltale sign of back pain."It wasn't the best," Williams admitted later, sounding surprised when asked about the back injury. Her coach had let it slip after the players walked off the court that Williams had been experiencing back pain for days."Again, I don't want to blame anything. I feel like Ana deserves all the credit," Williams added. "I feel she played unbelievable today. I think she went for her shots. It's not like I gave her the match."Ivanovic will next play 19-year-old Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, who had a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-0 win over local hope Casey Dellacqua. The other quarterfinal in Ivanovic's half will feature two-time finalist Li Na, who beat No. 22 Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-0, and No. 28 Flavia Pennetta, who defeated No. 9 Angelique Kerber 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.The men's draw progressed more according to rankings when three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic and No. 3 David Ferrer advanced to the quarterfinals, along with No. 7 Tomas Berdych and No. 8 Stanislas Wawrinka.Djokovic continued his bid for a fourth straight Australian title with a 6-3, 6-0,honeycomb paper balls6-2 win over Fabio Fognini. Ferrer beat Florian Mayer 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 and will next play Berdych, the 2010 Wimbledon finalist.

Maria Sharapova upset in Round 4

During a run of four breaks against her, Sharapova won only three points on her own serve and fell 5-0 behind in the second set.The four-time major winner rallied to win four straight games before Cibulkova held to level the match. After taking an off-court medical time out after the second set for a hip strain, she was broken immediately and had seven double-faults in the third set.Sharapova was two tournaments into a comeback from a prolonged layoff with a right shoulder injury, and said her run to the fourth round was a positive sign because she was healthy and back on tour."I have to look at the positives and see where I have come from in four or five months. I haven't played a lot of tennis in those six months," said Sharapova,Long Sleeve T-Shirts who won the Australian title in 2008 and lost two other finals."So I certainly would have loved to play a little bit more before playing a Grand Slam, but this is the chance that I was given."

She needed almost 3? hours to beat Karin Knapp in searing heat the second round -- playing 50 minutes between her first and final match points. She said she couldn't use the heat wave as an excuse for her loss, and added that the hip strain wasn't anything out of the ordinary for a tennis player.Cibulkova had spent just over 3? hours on court in her first three wins, including a 6-1, 6-0 win over No. 16 Carla Suarez Navarro in the third round. The pair hadn't played since Sharapova's quarterfinal win at Wimbledon in 2011. Now they're evenly split in six head-to-heads, but Cibulkova has won two of their three matches at the majors with her win Monday and her quarterfinal victory at the 2009 French Open.Cibulkova raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set before tightening up and letting Sharapova back into the match. She was more steady in the third, when she didn't even face a break point."I was never doubting myself," the No. 20-seeded Cibulkova said, adding that Ivanovic's win over Williams the previous day had been motivational but not her main inspiration against Sharapova."It was a great match for Ana. But this was a different story. I already beat Maria before and I beat her" at a major.

Uproar as Kenyan football champions league reps seek ex-coach

With the clock ticking towards the start of the CAF Champions League opening rounds in February, Kenyan representatives, Gor Mahia, have moved to bolster their management but their intended addition has been met by uproar from devoted fans.On Tuesday, club secretary general,Wheel forks suppliers George Bwana, confirmed to the press that their former head coach who was also coached the national team, Harambee Stars, Zedekiah Otieno, is set for a dramatic return to the local league titleholders."We are aware the 2014 season will be tough, since we are set to participate in many competitions including the CAF Champions League," said Bwana."If you look at teams in the English Premier League, most of them have more than two assistant coaches, and that' s what we want to embrace at Gor," Bwana told local radio station, Capital FM on Wednesday. If the appointment comes through, Otieno, who captained Gor to the league crown in 1995 before returning to coach the side,Buy Smiling Face Handbag(AAA) wholesale, Custom Fit Stripe Shirt and more. will join another revered former ace, John Bobby Ogolla, as assistants to Scottish head coach, Bobby Williamson. The impending arrival of the tactician who left the club in 2011 has done little to assuage fears that Williamson, who led Gor to the first domestic title in 18 years last season, was set to ditch the club in favour of Tanzanian giants, Yanga SC, who also won their league in 2013.However, Bwana denied Williamson was on the verge of exit saying instead they were seeking to hand him a long-term contract in the near future."Coach Bobby is here to stay. As matter of fact, we are working on a longer contract. We are just looking at strengthening the technical bench in preparation for what promises to be a tough and explosive soccer season."

"So kindly manage the speculations," the secretary posted on the official Gor Mahia FC Facebook page as supporters turned to the social media platform to slam the decision to hire Otieno back."Otieno is a good tactician but a poor manager. His divide and rule tactic belongs to politics not soccer.
