Team Hop shirts bring new meaning to York-Clover clash

Team Hop T-shirts will be in abundance for Friday's renewal of the York-Clover basketball rivalry in the York Comprehensive High School gym.Team Hop shirts will be worn by York and Clover players and fans as a show of support for Lady Blue Eagles head basketball coach Sherer Hopkins, who is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy after brain surgery to remove a malignant tumor.The sale of Team Hop shirts has been brisk at Clover and York high schools."We've sold 250 T-shirts," said Clover girls' basketball coach Kiki Walker of the $10 shirts after Friday's game with Fort Mill. "The fundraiser Friday night is for a great cause."She said the family requested that the funds be directed to the Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, which Sherer has visited.Nike Air Max At Clover, she said, the sales raised more than $1,000.

"The color is gray, which is why 'Team Hop' on the sleeve is printed in gray."The shirts have the phrase "Playing 4 a cure" on the front, with "Team Hop Sherer Hopkins" on the sleeve.Blackwell said buckets for those who want to make donations at the game will be at the entrance to the York gym, one for York and one for Clover. The donations will go to the Hopkins family, she said. 

Bailey Jackson, Clover head boys' basketball coach, grew up with Hopkins, and both were basketball standouts at CHS. "Our boys' and girls' basketball teams are tight," Jackson said.First-year York head boys' coach Michael Dalton said, "Friday's game is a big rivalry and raising money for a great cause."The event also is Senior Parents Night,canada goose jacket women with boys' and girls' basketball players, cheerleaders, trainers and their parents recognized in special ceremonies.Many people say that the hardest part about working out is finding the motivation to get up and do it, but a new, free program is trying to help by providing a little push to help get in shape.
