respectively, the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER was purpose-built to reach the
Pacific Ocean's deepest point, after roughly two hours of descent from
the surface.
LSM was approached by the design and build team to
manufacture the carbon fibre internal lining of the Pilot Sphere, the
pilot's home in the submersible. This 'home', which measures 43 inches
in diameter, is filled with electronics and life-support equipment. It
is so small that the pilot's legs are tightly bent and he can barely

Umeco's
prepregs, sourced to a tight delivery schedule through Umeco's
Australian agent Lavender CE Pty Ltd., were chosen because of the
company's ability to supply specialised prepregs, and to tight
lead-times - regardless of geographical location. Customised,
FAA-approved civil aircraft interiors pregregs were chosen because of
their low fire/smoke/toxicity and low heat release characteristics, a
requirement which formed part of the designer's safety specification.
Lavender
supplied more than just prepreg. They assisted LSM in their tooling
design and developed the flat patterns of the component plies for CNC
cutting using their in-house 3D laminate software. This is one of

western Pacific Ocean - near the Philippines. The voyage, the first of
its kind in over 50 years, and ensuing scientific sample analysis will

Glass Companies Feature New Products For Architectural Designs
A number of glass companies traveled to Las Vegas last week to take
part in GlassBuild America. While the show primarily targets glazing
companies, exhibitors reported that they were also seeing a few
architects walking the show, and were featuring products that can be
specified for both interior and exterior applications.
Chris Dolan, director of commercial glass products for Guardian Industries,China Carbon Plate BMS9-8: 6K-135-5H, 380g/㎡, T300 6K, 5H Satin Weave Manufacturerssaid the company was featuring its partnerships with two advanced glazing companies, Soladigm Electrochromic Glazing and Pythagoras Solar. One of the featured products was the electrochromic Sunguard EC, which it is marketing with Soladigm, as well as Guardians PVGU photovoltaic glass, marketed with Pythagroas Solar.
There is tremendous interest in buildings that approach net zero, said Dolan. Architects are looking for products like these [as they] make more options available.

New World Car Could Expand Potential For Plastics
Two years ago, a Bloomberg Business Week writer asked if Nissan CEO
Carlos Ghosn was crazy for a rapid ramp-up of the electric Nisan Leaf.
Ghosn was widely credited for bringing Nissan back from a near-death
experience in the late 1990s, but Leaf sales have sagged, triggering big
discounts. Now, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal this
